SCAM ALERT

A once promising recruitment company in Whitby, Ontario, is now at the centre of a brewing legal firestorm after GTN Global Talent Network Inc. accused its former owners, a Trinidadian husband and wife team, of orchestrating an elaborate multi-million dollar fraud. GTN's lawsuit, filed on April 7 in Ontario's Superior Court, paints a picture of shimmering luxury lives built on forged bank accounts, fake credit card statements and doctored financial reports.
According to GTN, Anthony and Nirmala 'Mala' Leidoux convinced the Toronto firm to buy Jobs in Dubai and Qatar, among others, Inc.'s recruitment software, candidate database and marketing assets for CAD 2 million. They presented documents showing: • Monthly bank deposits exceeding CAD 80,000, when in reality the business pulled in closer to CAD 12,000 • A candidate roster of over 950,000 job seekers, nearly 300,000 more than the roughly 658,000 entries actually in their system • 'Audited' financial statements underpinned by the seal of a non-existent Dubai accounting firm GTN says it vetted these records thoroughly and only discovered the deception after the deal closed on August 15, 2023.
GTN's Statement of Claim alleges a three-pronged ruse: • Doctoring Scotiabank Statements: Bank pages were crudely photoshopped to inflate account balances. GTN's finance team later found pixel-level inconsistencies and mismatched font sizes. • Fabricating Elavon Merchant Records: The couple generated counterfeit statements from Elavon, one of the world's leading payment processors, to create the illusion of booming online sales. • Misleading 'Audited' Reports: With forged audit certificates, the Leidouxes convinced GTN that an established Dubai accounting firm had verified their revenues and profits.
While Anthony is accused of masterminding the document forgeries, the lawsuit underscores Mala Leidoux's active role: • She controlled JID's Facebook and Instagram channels, posting glowing testimonials and success stories that lent online credibility to their inflated figures • She served as the nominal owner of key digital assets such as domains, email addresses and social media accounts, allegedly to help shield them from recovery efforts • The claim contends she co-signed false marketing materials, including a call centre proposal featuring a made-up agent's signature GTN insists Mala's involvement makes her personally liable under Ontario's Fraudulent Conveyances Act, not merely as Anthony's spouse but as an equal conspirator.
Neighbors in the quiet Whitby subdivision describe the Leidouxes as the textbook image of success: luxury SUVs in the driveway, designer clothes, and frequent social media updates from exotic locales. Their Instagram feed, once filled with photos of Dubai skyscrapers and yacht parties, now serves as a digital breadcrumb trail in GTN's case. 'They lived the high life and everyone believed it was earned,' one former JID employee told GTN investigators. 'No one suspected these were stolen moments and stolen money.'
GTN also asserts that the Leidouxes brazenly violated a non-compete and non-solicitation agreement. Within weeks of the sale, Anthony launched www.dubaijobs.net, targeting the same Gulf-bound job seekers GTN had just acquired. Both he and Mala allegedly approached former JID telemarketing staff, offering them better commissions and working conditions, clear breaches of their post-sale covenants.
GTN's claim seeks: • CAD 2.5 million in compensatory damages • CAD 250,000 in aggravated and punitive damages • Injunctions halting further competition and employee solicitation • Tracing orders to recoup the CAD 2 million purchase price • Pre-judgment interest and indemnity legal costs GTN is also preparing to hand its evidence to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police and the Ontario Provincial Police for possible criminal charges.
This high-stakes drama serves as a cautionary tale for anyone chasing overseas opportunities: • Scrutinize Upfront Fees: Legitimate recruiters typically earn via placement commissions, not lump-sum upfront payments • Verify Documents Directly: If offered 'audited' numbers, contact the bank or auditor yourself • Trust Your Gut: If a pitch sounds too good to be true, such as astronomical revenues or candidate lists, it probably is 'GTN's CEO states that they have come to learn that Mr. Leidoux has created other websites such as Dubaijobs.net and is attempting to scam unsuspecting buyers of the businesses.'
